“Trasna na Slí EP”
Dublin fingerstyle guitar player Robert Doyle releases his debut EP, Trasna na Slí, a collection of original and traditional material all sung in Irish. As the perception of the Irish language continues to strengthen and change, this EP is another example of its contemporary use by a younger generation of artists. The music shows influences from not only traditional Irish but also from West African and other folk styles which gives the EP a distinctive melodic and soulful sound.
Doyle was first taught to play reggae music on the guitar when he was 9 years old by his brother Eamonn, who runs the experimental Irish music label D1 Recordings on which the EP is released. Later, Doyle went on to experiment with various styles before spending time in France as a student of the world renowned master guitarist and musician Pierre Bensusan - who is no stranger to performing in Ireland and headlined the National Concert Hall during a recent tour.
As an accomplished fingerstyle player Doyle has performed in venues throughout Ireland and has supported, amongst others, Irish folk legends Tír na nÓg. The EP has been featured on Raidió na Gaeltachta programmes such as Beal Maidine and An Ghaoth Aniar as well as other stations including Dublin’s Raidió Na Life.
